Abstract The friction stir processing (FSP) technique was employed on the AA6082-AA8011 TIG-welded joints to investigate contribution of conditions microstructure and mechanical properties processed joints. were subjected FSP under normal submerged conditions. tests conducted included microstructural analysis, tensile, Vickers hardness fracture surface analysis. analysis showed minimum average grain size 7.83 μ m maximum 9.25 m, while had a range 6.33 4.86 m. All FSPed great refinement compared which an 25.71 21.99 ultimate tensile strength (UTS) ranged between 87.14 MPa 88.33 that 88.79 91.56 MPa. elongation 22.71% 24.28% 24.08% 28.81% obtained from UTS 80.27 85.36 with 21.82% 23.58% respectively. improved both ductility giving best results. morphology revealed ductile failure mode for all specimens. 56 HV 60 HV, 54 57 65 application Normal TIG welded slightly compromised but SFSP due rapid cooling.
